Born at Mansfield, 01 October 1857 on Sugar Street, Mansfield.  He was the son of Peter Remy, member of the wholesale grocery firm of Remy, Hedges & Walter.

Married 26 May 1881 to Louis Rissler, daughter of Peter Rissler & wife.  They had one daughter, but she lived only a few days.  They were members of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
